PTCL Dilemma

False advertising is as old as advertising.   Although false advertising is prohibited in many countries but advertisers are still able to deceive people through their lucrative packages .Sometimes packages are misspelled and sometimes they are misrepresented. People are betrayed by beautifully attractive offerings. In some countries, like Canada if you are offering something what you cannot do is an offence for which you have to be penalized.  The rule of law makes it possible for businessmen not to deceive consumers openly. If false advertising is being done by a monopolist firm then it is avariciousness of its own kind. This is the case with “PTCL”.

PTCL offered a smart package of Rs.300/- with so called 1MB speed, with unlimited downloading. It was an attractive offer for students to afford dsl. At that time, the default 1MB package was of 1200/- , the reduction in price was due to PTCL and USF deal. As the package was a gift, so a lot of people acquired the service. The public relations officer guaranteed that the package will continue for at least for one year but they changed their unlimited package into limited 1GB package without formal declaration, with reduced speed of 256KB and Rs.200 for extra 1GB downloading. This was one of the biggest examples of false advertising in Pakistan. All the customers complained the matter but PTCL is a monopolized king, it paid no heed to customer’s complaint.

It is a fact that a lot of people have acquired ptcl connection, but majority of the customers are annoyed with this false advertisement and many of them have disconnected their connections. So, instead of getting customers goodwill, customers have again experienced fraud from a monopolized organization.
